Secondary Employment

At Paparoa Street School, we recognise that secondary employment or work may provide personal and professional development opportunities. Kaimahi must act in good faith and disclose if they have secondary employment or work, or intend to enter into secondary employment or work, as this would be a potential or actual conflict of interest. We work with kaimahi to ensure that any potential or actual conflict is mitigated or managed. See Conflicts of Interest.

We want to ensure any secondary employment does not pose any risk, including but not limited to:

conflicts of interest that could impair the ability of the kaimahi to perform their duties at our kura
health and safety risks (e.g. fatigue)
reduced performance in the primary role of the kaimahi due to competing time commitments
potential breaches of confidentiality or privacy.

If kaimahi have secondary employment or work, they must:

maintain privacy – the kaimahi must not breach the privacy of any ākonga, kaimahi, or whānau/caregiver associated with our kura
protect confidential information and intellectual property – the kaimahi must not use or disclose any confidential information or intellectual property of the kura
uphold professional standards – the kaimahi must not engage or conduct themselves in a manner that may damage the reputation of the kura or themselves
keep us informed – notify us promptly of the hours the kaimahi works in any secondary employment or work so we can manage and mitigate any risk at the kura.

Kaimahi must regularly update the kura regarding the secondary role, including any changes in the role, and proactively notify the kura of any potential or actual breaches of the expectations above. Kaimahi must not perform work for a second job during their hours of work for Paparoa Street School.
