Classroom Release Time

Paparoa Street School kaiako are entitled to classroom release time (CRT) according to the conditions of their employment agreement. Our kura programme allows for appropriate release time in recognition of the responsibilities of kaiako outside the classroom. Classroom release time may be used for teaching preparation and assessment, professional development, and other kura-related responsibilities.

As required by the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement (PTCA), the poari matua consults with kaiako to determine how classroom release time is allocated and used. The poari matua may delegate this responsibility to the tumuaki. We provide kaiako with information about how classroom release time is allocated at the beginning of each year, and as needed throughout the year.

To be eligible for CRT, a kaiako must be: a) a classroom kaiako, b) employed either full time or for at least 0.8 FTTE, c) employed in either: i) a permanent role, or ii) a long-term relieving position of at least one term’s duration.

To be eligible for classroom release time, a kaimahi must be a classroom kaiako who is employed:

When kaiako have classroom release time, the kura ensures ākonga are appropriately supervised by another kaimahi or a release kaiako.

Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement entitlements

The PTCA provides set entitlements for classroom release time. We ensure any kaiako on an individual employment agreement have release time that meets the conditions of their agreement.
