Cultural Support for International Learners

This policy outlines how Paparoa Street School meets the requirements of Code Outcome 19, clause 79.c.

Paparoa Street School offers international learners cultural support to help ensure their health, safety, and wellbeing, while keeping them in touch with their culture.

We give our international learners information and advice on how to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds and how to adjust to a different cultural environment in New Zealand. We also make sure they know about the cultural and community support available to them.

We keep a record of cultural support people who speak the learner's first language, and this is discussed with the learner on enrolment and during their orientation. If appropriate, we pair learners together for peer support. Paparoa Street School also encourages our international learners' cultures to be acknowledged and integrated into our learning environment.
