Parent/Guardian Arrangements

Parents/Guardians are responsible for informing the kura of day-to-day care, pick-up, and contact arrangements in place for their tamaiti.

Care arrangements and court orders

Day-to-day care arrangements for ākonga with separated parents (or ākonga with multiple guardians or changing guardianship) can be agreed informally, recorded in a formal agreement, or determined by a parenting order from the Family Court.

Paparoa Street School requires parents/guardians to provide the kura with a copy of any current agreement or court order related to the care of their tamaiti and to update the kura immediately if there are any changes. The kura must follow any changed arrangements, particularly if a court order has been made under urgency. If the kura has concerns, we follow our process for dealing with concerns as outlined in Rights of Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers.

The tumuaki or another authorised kaimahi may share confidential information about care arrangements with relevant kaimahi, as required. In order to help manage care arrangements, we also request that family contact details are kept up to date. All personal information is managed according to our Privacy policy.

Any dispute over the rights of separated parents regarding their child’s education, day-to-day care arrangements, and communication at/with the kura should be resolved by the parents, or through the courts. The kura is not able to settle disputes.

Surnames

Paparoa Street School uses the student's name as provided at enrolment, unless advised otherwise. Where conflict arises, the kura uses the student's legal name (i.e. the name on their birth certificate or as changed by court proceedings).
