Managing Policies and Procedures

At Paparoa Street School, the poari matua is responsible for the governance of the kura, which includes setting policies for controlling and managing the kura (Education and Training Act 2020, s 125.2). Our policies ensure the kura operates effectively and that the poari matua meets its legislative and regulatory responsibilities, including its paramount and supporting objectives under the Education and Training Act (s 127).

Policy development

The poari matua has entered into an agreement with SchoolDocs to provide our kura policies and procedures. The poari matua delegates the tumuaki to manage our policies and procedures in consultation with SchoolDocs.

SchoolDocs is an independent policies and procedures service that provides core policies that meet legislative and regulatory requirements and good practice, incorporating relevant school-specific information. SchoolDocs monitors changes to legislative and regulatory requirements and good practice, and updates core content as required. Our kura receives regular advisories reminding us to keep any school-specific details up to date. Our kura community has access to our policies and procedures through our SchoolDocs site.

Policy implementation

As the chief executive of the poari matua in relation to the control and management of the kura, the tumuaki is responsible for following the general policy directions of the poari matua and implementing kura policies and procedures. The tumuaki has complete discretion to manage the day-to-day administration of the kura as they see fit. The tumuaki regularly reports to the poari matua on specific areas of compliance that require poari matua assurance or oversight.

Policy review

The tumuaki and poari matua are responsible for the regular review of our policies and procedures, including following the SchoolDocs annual poari matua assurance schedule and three-year review schedule. The review process allows our poari matua and tumuaki to confirm that policies are in place, up to date, and being implemented effectively, and/or address any issues that affect compliance.

Our kura community is able to participate in the review of our policies and procedures where appropriate. The poari matua and tumuaki consider feedback from the kura community as part of the review.

Policy updates

SchoolDocs keeps our poari matua and tumuaki informed of updates to our policies, and updates are minuted at poari matua hui as needed. The tumuaki advises kaimahi, ākonga, and other members of the kura community of any changes or updates to policies and/or procedures that may affect them.
