Tumuaki Responsibilities

The tumuaki of Paparoa Street School is responsible for the management of our kura and is accountable to the poari matua and the kura community.

As a full member of the poari matua, the tumuaki is responsible for meeting all poari matua responsibilities. See Poari Matua Responsibilities.
As the chief executive of the poari matua in relation to the control and management of the kura, the tumuaki:
- complies with the general policy directions of the poari matua (Education and Training Act 2020, s 130)
- has complete discretion to manage the day-to-day administration of the kura as they think fit (Education and Training Act 2020, s 130)
- implements the policies and procedures of the kura and delegates responsibilities to other kaimahi as needed
- provides the poari matua with information the poari matua needs to carry out its own responsibilities
- assures the poari matua through regular poari matua reporting that the kura complies with key legislative and regulatory requirements, that policies and procedures are up to date, and that appropriate actions have been taken – see Review Schedule and Poari Matua Assurances.
As an employee of the poari matua, the tumuaki is responsible for meeting the requirements of their employment agreement, including participating in a professional growth cycle. See Tumuaki Professional Growth Cycle.
As the educational leader of our kura, the tumuaki engages with kaimahi, ākonga, and the kura community on operational matters as appropriate.
