Paparoa Street School
This policy outlines how Paparoa Street School meets the requirements of Code Outcome 15, clauses 60(e), 62.1(g) and 65.
As required by the Code of Practice, we ensure that international learners have appropriate insurance coverage to protect them against significant financial costs arising from any incidents. We provide learners and their families with information about insurance requirements before entering into an enrolment contract with our school.
The international learner coordinator is responsible for ensuring that international learners have all required insurance documentation. We keep a record of insurance policies for each international learner, monitor expiry dates, and issue reminders when policies need to be renewed.
Insurance requirements
As required by the Code, we ensure, as far as practicable, that all international learners enrolled for two weeks or longer have appropriate insurance that covers travel and health requirements. We assess insurance cover as part of the offer of place process and clearly communicate the requirements to learners and their parents/guardians.
Travel
We ensure,
as far as practicable, that learner insurance covers travel:
If travel occurs outside the enrolment period (as defined by the enrolment contract), we ensure that the travel is covered by Code-appropriate insurance as far as practicable. Travel to other countries during the enrolment period (e.g. for a holiday) is outside our responsibility, unless for the purpose of connecting flights to and from New Zealand.
Health
We ensure, as far as practicable, that learner insurance covers:
Checking that insurance is appropriate

If the learner and their family cannot provide a copy of their insurance policy in English, we advise them of Code requirements and ask them to declare in writing that the insurance policy meets Code requirements.
In addition to checking that the insurance covers the minimum requirements as specified in the Code, we:
Exclusions
We may choose, at our discretion, to enrol a learner with an exclusion on their medical insurance for a pre-existing condition. In making this decision, we assess whether the learner will be able to study, with adequate support. If we decide to enrol the learner, we ensure that:
