Paparoa Street School
At Paparoa Street School, we aim to communicate regularly with parents and whānau to build a partnership between kura and home, placing ākonga and their whānau at the centre of education. We aim to reduce barriers to effective communication by considering the needs of our kura community and any feedback we receive.
We use a range of methods to inform and engage with parents, caregivers, and whānau, including the kura website and regular newsletters. We encourage parents, caregivers, and whānau to raise queries and communicate with the school as needed. Kura contact information is available online and through the tari kura.

Providing contact information
Parents/Caregivers supply their contact and emergency contact details at enrolment and are responsible for ensuring that the kura has their up-to-date contact details. The kaitiaki tari is responsible for maintaining up-to-date contact lists, and parents/caregivers are reminded twice a year to update their contact information. Contact lists are kept in printed form in the tari and are available on the student management system.
Where appropriate, parents/guardians are responsible for letting the kura know if there are any court orders or day-to-day care arrangements that may affect kura communications. See Rights of Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers and Parent/Guardian Arrangements.
Communicating with parents and caregivers
At Paparoa Street School, we communicate directly with parents and caregivers about a range of matters, including (but not limited to):
We share information about ākonga progress and achievement with ākonga and their parents, and take a collaborative approach to support ākonga learning. See Reporting about Ākonga Progress and Achievement.
We inform parents of anything that may be preventing or slowing the progress of their tamaiti at kura, or harming their relationships with kaiako or other ākonga (Education and Training Act 2020 (s 103, s 165). In order to establish support for the ākonga, we are obliged to report to parents in these circumstances, even if an ākonga requests
confidentiality. We share ākonga personal information with parents and guardians according to our kura policy – see Sharing Ākonga Personal Information with Parents and Guardians.
In an emergency, disaster, or crisis the kura contacts parents/caregivers/whānau when it can, using the emergency contact details provided. See Emergency Management.
